How a Litecoin payment QR works
Litecoin follows the same convention as Bitcoin's BIP21, with its own prefix:
litecoin:ltc1q…?amount=0.5&label=Corner%20CafeAmounts are in LTC with up to 8 decimals. Litecoin addresses start with L (legacy), M or 3 (script) or ltc1 (SegWit). Legacy and script addresses use Base58Check; SegWit addresses use bech32. All are verified as you paste.
A Bitcoin address beginning with 3 can look like a Litecoin script address. The checksum tells them apart only by the version byte, so always copy from your Litecoin wallet's Receive screen.
Questions
Can I use an old Litecoin address that starts with 3?
Yes, older script addresses starting with 3 are still valid. Newer wallets usually show M addresses for the same type.
What amount unit does the link use?
LTC, with a dot for decimals and up to 8 places.
Will Bitcoin wallets read a litecoin: link?
No, and that's intentional. The prefix stops a Bitcoin wallet from treating it as a Bitcoin payment.
